The Night Amber and I Hung out With Dooce and The Pioneer Woman November 6, 2009

Posted by Emily in : Friends , trackback

On Wednesday night, my friend Amber (who I met through blogging and bonded with over our screaming babies) and I went to the Pioneer Woman book signing in Salt Lake City.

About 3,000 other people thought it would be a good idea too . . .

We all froze our buns off outside waiting for our group to be called into the bookstore to  meet PW and get our cookbooks signed.

While we waited outside in the dark freezing night, we chatted with other bloggers and Pioneer Woman readers.  It was fun to be around so many different people who were all there for one thing: to meet Ree.

Among the PW readers was a celebrity blogger (besides Amber and me, of course) who I practically tackled to meet.

One of the first people to get their books signed was DOOCE.  YES.  THE DOOCETHE PIONEER OF ALL BLOGGERS. The one and only blogger to be featured on Oprah, Today, Good Morning America, Bonnie Hunt, and a slew of other shows.

I yelled, “Dooce, Oh my gosh!  How are you!” LIKE I HAD KNOWN HER FOR YEARS. (By the way I greeted Heather, Amber thought I HAD known her for years.  Ahem . . .)

The weird thing is, I have known her for awhile.

She just doesn’t know me.

I started reading her blog about six years ago, and David and I talk about her like she’s an extended member of our family.

She is just as dynamic in person as she is in her writing.  Funny, bold, and confident. It was such a fun surprise!

Pioneer Woman.  The one and only Pioneer Woman. Ree Drummond.

She was beautiful and gracious.  Exactly how I imagined she would be.

My lucky friend Amber was one of the many to get her cookbook signed.  (Hundreds of people were not able to get an autograph because there were just too many people there.)

It was such a fun night.

Meeting celebrities and all . . .

I have seen so many blogs about this, and am so sad I didn’t know about it! I love Ree, and in fact, just made her delicious apple dumplings last weekend.

Sadly, my feelings aren’t so warm in regards to Dooce.
