Family Photos September 14, 2009
Posted by Emily in : Daily Life, Family, Little Man Dallin, My Handsome Husband, New York, Photography, Princess Hannah , trackbackMy mom has asked me no less than 457 times for an updated family picture.
Apparently, the snapshot she has of us sans Dallin is not sufficient.
Easy enough, right?
I have been dragging my feet on this. Why?
- The daylight hours when David is home is pretty much non existent.
- During the daylight hours when David is home, the kids are awake, fed, bathed, changed, and we are not doing another activity, is very rare. It happens like once a month.
- I’m not at my ideal weight . . . not super excited to have that documented. Let’s not talk about that, shall we?
- Hiring a professional photographer is not in our medical school budget.
- Buying coordinating clothes is also not in our medical school budget.
- Taking a family self portrait is much more difficult (read: almost impossible) than it looks.
However . . .
Against all odds, we did it.
After choosing something to wear from our limited wardrobe options (we only packed for six weeks), we walked outside our front door to the next building over which has a very nice large red wall.
After bribing our kids (I’m referring to Hannah) with a future full of suckers, candy, and all things fun and nice, if she would just LOOK at the camera, we actually got some shots with all of us looking in the same direction.

Little Dallin had no idea why were all staring at the camera. It was not exciting. It didn’t talk to us, make us laugh, or tell us what to do.

The kids were pretty cooperative for about 10 minutes.

Hannah wanted a turn with the remote, so while I explained the complex logistics of pressing the button, Dallin wondered why we were still sitting on the grass staring at the camera.

Well, he’d had it. No more staring at the boring camera.
There you have it, our 10 minute family photo session.
One of these pictures will be sent to both sets of parents.
My mom will now sleep better at night.
Which one should I send?

Very cute pictures! AND a very CUTE family!
My vote is for the second picture near the top! Hannah’s smile is classic! I also like the first picture.
Your family is adorable. My favorite is the second one. By the way, you seriously look like a super model.
I like the second one and the last one! You could print both and send one to your parents and one to his!! Or use one for a christmas letter!!
Dallin is getting so tall! He is so cute!! And Hannah too!!
These are gorgeous, Emily! You are beautiful.
So cute!
My SIL is a professional children’s photographer (celebrity clients, pro athletes, blah blah) but every time I’ve watched her shoot a session, I swear it never goes longer than 15 minutes. Somehow, she gets the BEST shots during that time, but I have no idea how she does it. She doesn’t even really mess with photoshop much. It’s crazy.
I LOVE them all… the second one being my Favorite… However, with that being said, the 3rd picture actually shows that the only ones not following the rules of looking at the camera are the adults… I AM JUST SAYING!!!
Ha Ha! Cathy! You are TOTALLY RIGHT!
I vote for the first one though the second one is really cute too. I love the bare feet–cute touch. I need to get a remote. It would come in handy. Can you get it at any old camera store?
I vote for #2, or maybe #4, but I love Hannah’s smile in #2!! You did a great job of composing especially considering the situation. If Hannah were only smiling in #4 I would definitely choose that…
You’re such a cute, adorable, wonderful family! And if you’re not at your “ideal weight” it certainly doesn’t show!!!
It’s a toss-up between 2 and 4.
And HOW did you get them to even look at the camera THAT long?
