One Year Later July 9, 2009

Dear Dallin,

You smell like strawberries and bubble gum.  I try very hard not to eat you.  You smell that good.  Your soft cheeks don’t help either.  Or the fact that you allow me to smooch your sweet smelling softness all day!  Sadly, I know these sweet smelling days are numbered.  In no time, you will begin to smell like “outside boy” and I guarantee I won’t be jumping to kiss the dirt off your face.

But, until then, you will be smothered with kisses from me.

Your first year in review:

Months 0-4: You screamed. A LOT.  It’s all kind of a blur to tell you the truth.  Your dad and I were both sleep deprived and emotionally drained.  You were a cute little thing in so much pain.  Somehow, we all survived your painful first four months and we ended up taking a family trip to Bear Lake .  You briefly visited Idaho and Wyoming.

Months 5-6: You started doing planks daily.  Started to crawl at 5.5 months. Your happiness increased 100% with mobility.  You slept through the night for the first time and when I didn’t hear you for 11 hours . . . I thought you were dead.  True story.

Month 7: We moved to Kansas City.  You had your first plane ride. You visited Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri for the first time.  You are an excellent sleeper.  THANK GOODNESS.  I am a much better mommy when everyone in the family is well rested.

Month 8: You started to stand and cruise around furniture.  You love to torture Paris.  In fact, Paris runs away when she sees you coming.

Month 9: You climb the stairs.  You wrestle with Hannah.  You got your first tooth.  You got your first haircut.

Month 10: You speed crawl up the stairs.  You stand.  You love to inspect your toys.  You got your second tooth.

Month 11: You love the grass.  You love to watch other kids.  You like to crawl on the sidewalk.  You sprouted your top two teeth simultaneously.

Month 12: We drove to Texas to celebrate the 4th of July and your birthday with our friends Daniel and Lydia.  You can now add Oklahoma and Texas to your travels.  You love water.  You mostly love to splash water.

In one year you went from this: (July 7, 2008)

Emily, I just love your blog. I love your pictures, you are so inspiring. You make me want to get a new lens for my Digital Rebel and take a photography class. Thanks for all your posts. We are moving this week into a new house after a week vacation in San Diego. I can’t wait for life to slow down a little and to get focused on taking more up close pictures of the kids. Thank you for your inspiration.
