Pacifier Rehab 36 Days and Counting June 2, 2009

Posted by Emily in : Parenthood, Princess Hannah , trackback

If there’s one thing parenthood has taught me, it’s that parents have a “pass” to tell little white lies to their kids.  These little lies are so little, that they’re not even considered lies. Really.

I mean, I don’t consider them lies.

I call it rationalizing with a two-year-old.  (The sun went to bed!  The sun is rubbing his eyes!  Going to sleep will make your tummy feel better!  If you don’t drink your juice you will just stay little forever!)

And so, 36 days ago, the mother of all little-white-lies was told by me.

36 days ago, Hannah’s binkie was strategically placed up on a shelf LOST.

She has mourned the loss of her beloved binkie EVERY STINKING DAY.  Several times a day.

I had no idea such strong emotions could run through such a small body.

The past month has been much like I image rehab would be for an addict: experiencing detox, withdraw, and irritability.

Boy am I glad the mourning period is over.

It’s good you are sticking to your lie!
I know ppl who have tried over and over but couldnt pull it through and I am totally AGAINST pacifiers at the age of 3 and older! I cant stand seeing bigger kids with one in their mouth, it makes me mad! I have no clue why.

I know it can be difficult with two kids bc its “not fair” if both have to go ‘cold turkey’ and one is only a year old! But it also makes the process so much harder if you have one who is allowed and one who isnt!! I have been there when I was helping my hostsister out with her kiddos!!

I am sure she will be over it soon!!
