The Second Anniversary of My 29th Birthday January 16, 2009

Posted by Emily in : Birthday, Thoughts , trackback

My twin brother Brian and I will be celebrating the second anniversary of our 29th birthday in a couple of weeks.  It’s not that I have anything against turning 31, or that I hate being a thirty-something now.  I just like being 29.

So this is my twin (and his girlfriend):

It’s bizarre to think we were born on the same day, same year, in the same hospital, from the same mother. Where we are in our lives is just slightly different.  In fact, our lives are so slightly different, you may not notice the difference at all:

Me:  Married almost 12 years

Him:  Single

Me: Two kids

Him:  None

Me: Living here and there and everywhere like a gypsy

Him: Owns a condo

In many ways, I feel so much older than him, and in others, I feel like his little sister.  What do you think?  Which one of us do you think is 10 minutes older?

This is your chance to speak up!  Blog stalkers and lurkers alike, COMMENT!

And please don’t ask any silly questions like, “Are you identical?”

Because I’m going to ask you to THINK before you SPEAK, and to PLEASE take your FOOT out of your MOUTH. (I know some of you really almost asked this question and are just slightly embarrassed to admit it.  It’s okay, everyone does it.)

(I hope I win!)  :)

I’m sure it’s him. I mean, clearly, you look SOOO much younger. ;)

I think he is older. You both have the same smile.

i know the answer so i will exclude myself from the compition and let someone else win for a change!

“second anniversary of my 29th birthday”, i admit it, that took me a few seconds (fake blonde moment).

brian, if you read this, if emily likes your girlfriend that’s really all you need, she’s always been the more sensible one. tic…tic…tic

Pam, thanks for the laugh and vote of confidence! I’ll be sure Brain reads this . . . I think he needs the extra nudge!

It seems that you are more responsible – no offense to Brain, so I will say that you are older. I don’t have a lot of twin experience, but it is also a pet peeve of mine when people ask stupid questions like that. You must have gotten so sick of that so early in life! Happy Day! Hope it is so great!

I think he is older….

And in defense of “stupid” people, not many know that boy/girl twins cannot be identical and are likely just making inane conversation.

So, um, are you identical??

hee hee!

Miss u.

I think I remember you saying one time that you were older. But I know it was a long time ago. Of course you’re fraternal twins!

I also know the answer to this question. So, like Pam, I will exclude myself from answering. I also know that it would make Emily really mad if she ever had to actually share a birthday cake. It’s bad enough not having your own day or even be able to send the evil identical on a date you didn’t want to go on. :)

I had to laugh at the identical twin question, because I’m the mom of boy/girl twins and I get asked that pretty much every time we venture out. I’ve stopped answering the question with anything other than, “they are a boy and a girl…”. Get some looks, but they figure it out eventually! I couldn’t even guess who is older, it’s funny how different your lives are. I hope that you get along, even with your differences. I’m hoping the best for my own twins. :)
