Hannah Newsletter #6 March 4, 2008
Posted by Emily in : Princess Hannah , trackbackDear Hannah,
You are now 19 months old. You talk incessantly (which I love because your little voice is so cute) and sing songs you make up. It’s hard to believe there was a time when you didn’t talk or sing! You constantly boss Paris around and yell “PARIS!!! COME!!!” I must yell at Paris quite a bit (she is the carefree dog that has selective hearing when she is out of arm’s reach) because you never yell at Kyaha (our very obedient dog) whom you refer to as Kia – as in the car. Your dad and I have to work with you repeatedly to NOT HIT THE DOGS. I know they are cute and cuddly and they rarely whine when you smack them around, but let’s face it, IT’S NOT NICE. You hit them so frequently that you automatically say “sorry” (and you sign the word at the same time in case they don’t understand you) and give them a kiss. This leads us to believe that you KNOW you are being naughty. We hope this “hitting phase” is out of your system before your new sibling arrives in July!
Your favorite songs are: “Popcorn Popping”, “Ensy Weensy Spider”, “I’m so Glad When Daddy Comes Home”, and “Wheels on the Bus”. Really, these are the only songs you know. Randomly throughout the day, you break out singing one of these songs. Usually it’s “Wheels on the Bus”. You especially like the part when the mommies say “SHUSH, SHUSH, SHUSH!!!”.

You LOVE Winnie the Pooh. You sleep with “Pooh Bear” and you kiss him every morning and night. He always stays in your crib because he is “sleeping” and when it is time for you to sleep, he is waiting to snuggle with you. You usually giggle when you see him and give him a big kiss. You mostly love his tags which I’m surprised haven’t worn off completely with the way you stroke them. You LOVE to watch “Winnie the Pooh’s Grand Adventure” with his friends. You refer to the movie as “Friends?” (Everything you say comes out in question form). You also love watching “Cars”, “Finding Nemo”, and “Ratatouille”. You do make requests, and we know which movie you want to see because you will exclaim with much excitement “CARS!” and you sign cars at the same time (so we are sure not to miss the point), or “MEEMO!!!”. You love to “speak whale” like Dory.

You say almost everything. To list all the words you say now would be ridiculous because I stopped counting at 100. You also sign over 30 words, so needless to say, you can communicate with people. I do have some favorite words I want to share because one day in the near future, you are going to say these words correctly and I will forget how you originally said them. Here are some of my favorites:
- Shoe-sherry (strawberry)
- Shock-it (chocolate)
- Guana (iguana)
- Gey-ko (gecko)
- Shoez (shoes)
- Bucky-in (buckle you in)
- Fir-you (for you)
- Parisss (Paris, the dog)
- Kia (Kyaha, the dog)
- Shump (jump)
- Shosh (Josh, your friend)
- MEN! (Amen)
- Peas (please)
- Brace-sit (bracelet, must be said with a very nasal voice)
- Shuree (tree)
- Share (chair)
- Bapple (apple)
- Bable (table)
- Peas (please)
- Baba (Saba)
- Git -down (get down)
- Flwr (flower)
- Pwane (plane)
- I Knee (I need)
- Walk (you say this correctly, but with an English accent)
- Fsh (Fish)
- Pig-it (Piglet)
- Han-huh? (Hannah)
Some other words have multiple meanings. Like the word “More” means, “Can I please have more of that stuff you’re eating?” and it also means, “Food”. The word “Some” on the other hand, means “Can you please share whatever you’re eating whether it be delicious or nasty?” The phrase “Thank You” and “Please” also have multiple meanings:
- “Thank you!” (Here mom, please take this.)
- “Thank you.” (I need that now.)
- “Thank you?” (Can I have that?)
- “THANK YOU!” (Um . . . I really, really, really need your attention!)
- “Thank you.” (Also means “You’re Welcome”)
- “THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!” (Mom, I REALLY WANT THAT NOW!)
- “Please?” (Can I have that?)
- “PLEASE!!!” (This is a plea. You usually say this when you want me to stop pouring water over your head when I’m rinsing out your shampoo.)
You love to cook with me. Mostly, you love to rearrange the drawers that are in your reach while standing on a chair, while I add ingredients. You are not afraid of the blender or the mixer and you frequently let your bossy little index finger take over and press the various buttons on the blender.

You love to show off your belly. Whenever we ask you, “Where is your belly?” you smile and lift up your shirt so we are sure to see that you have a belly button. Funny thing is, you stick out your tongue when we ask you to show us your “tummy”. I never thought about it, but I guess those words do sound a lot alike. You recently started responding with “Yeah”, which is a nice change from the previous “NO! NO! NO!” for everything. When you wake up from your nap, I’ll ask, “Did you have a nice nap?” and you will respond saying “Yeah” with a smile. You are too dang cute.
You love planes, boats, tractors, cars, birds, rocks, balls, cats, dogs, books, fish, iguanas, and geckos. These are things in your world. You love to play with boxes. Big or small, you don’t discriminate. Who needs toys? Play Dough has also been a big hit since you can make multiple tiny balls. You sign the word “cookie” for everything that tastes good. Cookie means: cracker, Fig Newton, muffin, or cookie. You are an excellent dancer and you will “shake your bum bum” when we ask you to! You love to dance so much, I often find you climbing on top of the table to “shake your bum bum”!

It’s amazing how many things are in the shape of a moon. You cleverly pointed out to me that peach slices are “moons!” And you know what? I had never noticed that before. You are still not a fan of potatoes (this includes fries) or orange juice. But you do love apples, kiwi, strawberries, bread, cheese, grapes, pretzels, and chips. You are a VERY CLEAN EATER. You never require a bib. You can’t think straight when any crumbs are on your hands or plate. You repeatedly tell me “MESS!” throughout your meal because your hands have a crumb on them, or you have a little crumb on your mouth. I am not exaggerating. I have created a VERY CLEAN PROBLEM. I hope I haven’t made you OCD. The other day you had a friend over for lunch and she ate like a NORMAL MESSY 19 MONTH OLD. You couldn’t eat your food because you were so busy telling her that she was a “MESS!” and you looked to me and you looked to her mom like, “AREN’T YOU PEOPLE SEEING THIS? WHY AREN’T YOU DOING SOMETHING?”

You love to pray. You fold your arms for a max of 30 seconds, so we have to talk fast or give short prayers for you to participate. Throughout the day, I find you bowing your head and whispering a prayer in your own little Hannah language and then you’ll look up at me and yell, “MEN!”. You love to blow kisses and give “high five!” to everyone. You also note “eyes” on everything. It really is amazing how many toys have “eyes”.

Randomly, you will say, “swing?” and that really means, “Hey, why don’t you drop everything and take me to the park where I can play on that thing I call a swing even though it’s really a slide?” You love the park. The slide is your favorite, but it’s not mine because I’m pregnant and the slide requires assistance from me. The other day I was trying to get you to leave the park with me and I threatened, “Bye Hannah! I’m leaving!” and you said “BYE! BYE!” with a BIG HUGE SMILE. You see, you are that child that would not miss their mom if they left you at the park. However, I am that mom that would miss you! Everyone laughed when you bid me farewell, and you were not too happy when I picked you up kicking and yelling to leave the park.
You are still OBSESSED with shoes. Do you know what the best part of church is? Yeah, it’s the fact that everyone wears shoes. Same with the grocery store and the park. I am amazed at how many shoes you can find in books too! It wasn’t until recently that you actually learned what body part your shoes cover. You see, your feet are dangerously close to shoes and once you see your shoes, that is ALL YOU CAN TALK ABOUT. Your Aunt Jennifer knows how much you LOVE shoes so she sent you a brand new pair all the way from California (which is basically 1/2 way around the world to us on Saba) and when you opened the box, all you could say was “WOW!”, again and again.
That is how your dad and I feel about you everyday. “WOW!”
